What is Far Infrared Heat?

The revolutionary Y-Wave design is a therapeutic back support that combines wireless, battery powered, FIR heat therapy with state of the art functionality and comfort. It is at the core of York Biomedical's far infrared heat products.

The Y-Wave design uses an infrared heat source as its therapeutic component. It is a special kind of infrared that is called Far-Infrared Radiant heat, or FIR. FIR was developed by NASA to help astronauts stay healthy in space. The infrared light waves penetrate 4-6 inches into the body and stimulate healing, oxygenate and increase blood flow, reduce swelling and inflammation, improve lymph flow, and help cleanse the body of toxic and acid waste. The ceramic that emits FIR (bio-ceramics) is made from many different kinds of ceramics mixed with mineral oxides. The mixture is then heated to 1600 degrees centigrade and ground into micro particles in nano scale and inserted into the material.

There are many different products that you can get your FIR energy from. There are small discs that you can hold on parts of your body to receive FIR heat. This type of device requires an outside power source and doesn't have any fastening straps. Another way to get FIR heat is through various mats and braces. These mats and braces are very square and non-conforming to the body. They lose their functionality trying to be useable on various body parts. While some of these mats have fastening straps and some don't, the one thing that they all have is a cord for an outside power source which limits mobility. The Y-Wave design will become the industry standard because it is a self-contained, fully functional FIR heat therapy device. There is no product on the market that can provide the functionality and the mobility that the Y-Wave design provides consumers.

Far Infrared Heat has nothing to do with either ultraviolet radiation (which gives you a sunburn and damages your skin) or atomic radiation (i.e., from a nuclear source). FIR heat is simply a form of energy that heats objects directly through a process called conversion, without having to heat the air in between. FIR heat is also called infrared ray energy (IR). Our sun is the principal source of FIR heat that we enjoy daily.

Have you ever been outside on a partly cloudy spring day of about 50 degrees and felt quite comfortable until the sun was suddenly obscured by a cloud? Although the air temperature had not had time to drop, you felt chilled, as the cloud would not let the warming infrared rays through to reach you. It is that FIR heat which is an important energy force that promotes healing by increasing blood flow and raising the white blood cell count. That is the same FIR heat that is in our product.
